Fudgy Banana Brownies

Made with sunflower seed butter & overripe bananas, these brownies have the perfect fudgy texture for a treat that’s indulgent, but still provides good nutrition!

Ingredients
  

  • 1/3 cup sunflower seed butter
  • 3 overripe bananas
  • 1/3 cup cacao powder
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup ground flaxseed
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp avocado oil
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/3 cup chocolate chips/chunks allergen-friendly, optional

Equipment

  • 1 8x8in baking pan
  • 1 large mixing bowl
  • 1 meat masher
  • 1 whisk
  • parchment paper
  • measuring cups
  • measuring spoons

Preparation
 

  1. Preheat the oven to 350F
  2. Add the bananas to a large bowl and mash them.
  3. Add all of the other ingredients, except chocolate chips, to the bowl. Combine.
  4. Line an 8x8in baking dish with parchment paper.
  5. Add the brownie mixture evenly to the pan. Sprinkle on chocolate chips if desired.
  6. Bake the brownies for 15-20 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Let the brownies cool for ~30 minutes, then remove the parchment paper and cut the brownies into squares.

Notes

Substitutions, Add-Ons, & Alterations:
  • Use cashew butter (contains tree nuts), almond butter (contains tree nuts), or pumpkin seed butter in place of sunflower seed butter.
  • Try honey in place of maple syrup.
  • Add chopped dates, pretzels (may contain gluten, wheat, and/or corn), crushed nuts (may contain peanuts and/or tree nuts), marshmallows (may contain gluten), white chocolate chips (may contain dairy), crushed candy canes (may contain gluten), etc. to the brownie mix before baking. 
  • Frost the brownies with your favorite frosting, icing, or glaze.
